Saturday afternoon (4 pm ET), college football's All Star season continues with the traditional Under Armour Senior Bowl, to be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Playing the game will be a collection of the best senior college football stars as well as some prospects entering the NFL Draft. Coaching the North team will be the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals Marvin Lewis. Chan Gailey will coach the South.
Odds makers at most offshore sports books list the North as -2 point spreads favorites in the game with a combined score betting total of 45. South backers are getting +110 odds while the North is giving -130. Be sure and get the latest Point Spreads for today's game from any of our sports book friends.
Betting college all-star games can be a bit tricky. The teams are evenly matched, made up of players from across the country. So how do you make a pick? It's my opinion, you don't get too serious about the games, and by all means, don't bet your mortgage. If you like playing the trends, the South leads the series with 29 wins while the North has notched 26. In last years game the North won 31-13, but the South has picked up victories in two of the last three games.
My prediction for today's game is a North victory and I'll even go out on a limb and say they cover the 2-point chalk. I like the North because of its group of three quarterbacks, Nevada's Colin Kaepernick, Washington's Jake Locker and Iowa signal caller Ricky Stanzi. Quarterbacking the South team will be Andy Dalton of TCU, sure to be crowd favorite Greg McElroy of Alabama and Florida State's Christian Ponder.
I like the North's qb-corps because of their ability to run the ball – with Stanzi the exception. Teams who win these all-star events are teams that run the ball the best. I made the same call in last weeks Shrine Bowl because the East had a solid group of running quarterbacks. And honestly, I like the North's ensemble of players better than the South.
Good luck with this one. BEST BET – North -2.
