2008 College Football Predictions: Gators’ Tim Tebow odds favorite for Heisman repeat

2008 College Predictions..Heisman Trophy:  With a new college football season rapidly approaching, online sportsbooks are throwing all kinds of futures and props wagering options at us hoping we will bite on at least some of them. Of the available futures that get my attention the quickest are the current lists of odds on the 2008 Heisman Trophy hopefuls offered by online super-sportsbook SBGglobal.com . When speaking in terms of reality, this is a conversation we should be having in late October, however; since when has reality been a factor in discussing pre-season college football.

This year we have somewhat of an anomaly in the Heisman race. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow returns to Gainesville for his junior year after winning the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore. It’s not often we have a Heisman winner returning the following season and only once has a player won the award twice. That being Archie Griffin of Ohio State who won in back to back years, 1974-75.

If SBGglobal.com oddsmakers college football predictions are correct, 2008 could produce the first repeat winner in over 30 years. Tebow has the best chance with +250 odds to win the Heisman Trophy again.

So if it isn’t Tebow, who then? The oddsmakers seem to like Missouri senior quarterback Chase Daniel at +450 odds. Daniel finished fourth in Heisman voting in 2007 behind Tebow, Arkansas RB Darren McFadden and Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan. Other than Tebow, Daniel is the only returning finalist.

Ohio State junior running back Chris Wells has the best non quarterback odds at +600 closely followed by Georgia sophomore running back Knowshon Moreno at +800.

Florida Gators multi-purpose back Percy Harvin at +1000 odds and West Virginia senior quarterback Patrick White at +1200 odds are expected to have big years and will be part of the 2008 Heisman Trophy chatter.

We must also take into account for one or two unknown players to insert themselves into the Heisman race. If you remember in 2006 McFadden was an unknown to begin the year but finished second in voting at the end of the year. The odds on an unknown player to win the Heisman Trophy are +250 the same as Tebow.

Listed below are the college football players and odds on their Heisman chances. Odds provided by online sportsbook SBGglobal.com.
