2010 College Football Predictions: The 2010 College Football season kicks off on Thursday, September 2nd with a full slate of games, including a contest between Pac 10 stalwart USC and Hawaii. Unfortunately for the Trojans they will not be a factor in the post-season, regardless of their performance on the field this season, due to the heavy sanctions the NCAA laid on the school last month. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com do not even have the program listed in its' Odds to Win the Pac 10 Conference.
The bookmaker is instead favoring last year's champion, Oregon, at +250 moneyline odds. The
Ducks arch rival, Oregon State, is also listed at +250.
Oregon ended USC's long reign atop the Pac 10 standings last season by going 8-1 in conference play and 10-3 overall. The Ducks season, which got off to a rocky start in Boise, resulted in the team's first Rose Bowl appearance since 1995.
Oregon figures to be every bit as formidable this year with 17 starters and 48 lettermen returning to the team. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who threw for over 2100 yards and rushed for 668 and 13 touchdowns, is gone after some legal woes resulted in his dismissal from the program; however, sophomore Darron Thomas should be an adequate replacement. Thomas saw action in five games as a true freshman in 2008 and aquitted himself well in his limited action.
The Ducks, which averaged 412 yards per game (232 rush) in 2009, do bring back leading rusher and reigning Pac 10 Player of the Year, LaMichael James. James rushed for 1608 yards (6.7 ypc) and 10 touchdowns as a freshman last season. Oregon's leading receiver, Jeff Maehl, also returns for his senior year.
Oregon's defense, which allowed 23.8 points and 336 yards per game in last year's conference winning campaign, brings back eight starters. The unit's top four tacklers all return, including free safety John Boyett (90 tackles, three interceptions) and defensive end Kenny Rowe, who recorded a team high 11.5 sacks as a junior.
