Ohio State Buckeyes 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: There is one thing pre-season pollsters and college football oddsmakers agree on. After Alabama, there is no place where expectations are higher with a football program than in Columbus, Ohio with the Ohio State University Buckeyes of the BIG TEN Conference. Ranked No. 2 (behind Alabama) in most pre-season polls, sportsbook Bodog.com lists the Buckeyes also No. 2 on its 2011 BCS National Championship Board at 6/1 (+600).
The Buckeyes are coming off a year in 2009-10 where they finished with an 11-2 overall record, a No.5 national ranking in both AP and Coaches Polls, and a outright BIG TEN Conference championship after going 7-1 in league play. The Buckeyes finished the season with a Rose Bowl Game victory over Oregon.
What's bad news for OSU's opposition this year is that most of their players return. The Buckeyes currently have 17 returning players on the returning honors list including Junior Quarterback Terrelle Prior whose name you will hear often in the Heisman Trophy discussion.
While quarterbacks get most of the attention, deserved or undeserved, it's the Buckeyes defense that sets the table in Columbus. If the Buckeyes win the BCS championship in 2011, it will probably be because nobody could score. The Buckeye's defense returns all its linebackers from 2009 in Seniors Ross Homan, Brian Rolle and Jermale Hines, and Junior Etienne Sabino.
With all the talent returning, the question remains – will the Buckeyes be able to overcome SEC powers and win a BCS Championship? The best we can say is the Buckeyes have the potential to do so. OSU has the best team in the BIG TEN and a team that could very well go undefeated. It's also a plus for OSU the BIG TEN is currently without a playoff game as in the Big 12 and SEC.
OSU's coach, Jim Tressel is another major cog in the Buckeyes' machine. Tressel has already coached the team to one BCS Championship and is certain to do it again, probably sooner than later. Beginning his 10th year, Tressel has an unprecedented .817 winning percentage going 94-21 in his first nine years on the job.
