Indiana Hoosiers 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010

2009 College Football Odds: The Indiana Hoosiers enter the 2009 college football season with the hope that they can regain the bowl form they displayed in 2007 when they went 7-6 and finished eighth in the Big 10. Last year the Hoosiers slogged their way to 3-9 overall record and a pathetic 1-7 mark in conference play. As a result, online bookmaker BetUS.com has Indiana listed at +6300 on the moneyline to win the Big 10 title in their Indiana Hoosiers 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010. Indiana's offense suffered a major setback in 2008, despite returning quarterback Kellen Lewis. Lewis threw for 3043 yards in 2007 while also leading the team in rushing with 1004. The junior accounted for 37 touchdowns in all in the team's first winning campaign of the decade. However, Lewis was plagued by off the field issues and injuries last year and produced just 1731 total yards and 13 touchdowns. Consequently, the team's point per game average plummeted from 31.7 in 2007 to 20.5 last season.

Things were even worse for Bill Lynch's club in conference action, where they managed to score 14.5 per contest while averaging a mere 294 yards per game.

Unfortunately for the Hoosiers, things may not be much better this year. Lewis was kicked off the team in the Spring, opening the door for junior Ben Chappell to take over at quaterback. Chappell has just three starts under his belt and is surrounded by only four other upperclassmen in the starting unit.

Defensively, Indiana was a train wreck last season. The lackluster group allowed over 430 yards per game and gave up an average of 35.3 points per outing. Big 10 foes were even harder on the beleagured unit, scoring over 40 per contest while outgaining the Hoosiers by an average of 177 yards per game.

However, this year's squad has nine returning starters and should be improved, especially along the line. Defensive end Jammie Kirlew, who recorded 10.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss last season, returns to anchor a stout front seven. Kirlew will be one of seven upperclassmen in the starting line and linebacker corps.

Indiana begins their 2009 football season with an out of conference tilt against Eastern Kentucky on September 3rd. Their first Big 10 game takes place on September 26th at Michigan.
