South Carolina Gamecocks 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: South Carolina football enters its sixth year of the Steve Spurrier Era and while expectations at the SEC school are always high, it seems they are amped up a notch or two higher for the 2010 campaign. Carolina has never won the SEC conference title or participated in the SEC Championship Game. Finally, pundits think this could be the year the Gamecocks break through the gauntlet made up of Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. As we all know, the team that wins the SEC has a very high chance of getting into the BCS Championship game.
Spurrier, well known for developing quarterbacks, now has a quarterback, Stephen Garcia, who has the potential to guide the Gamecocks to loftier heights. Garcia, is a big kid at 6-2, 230 lbs., just the kind of size Spurrier needs in his system. In 2009 the Lutz, Fla., native threw for 2,862 yards with 17 resulting in touchdowns for a 119.33 quarterback rating.
The Gamecocks return 93 percent of their rushing yards, 99 percent of their passing yards and 83 percent of their receiving yards from a year ago. In addition, 16 of the squad’s top 20 tacklers, all who registered in double digits, return for the 2010 campaign.
The Gamecocks list 17 returning starters from the 2009 squad, eight on offense, seven
on defense and two specialists.
South Carolina will not be the pick to win the division, fans can count on Florida to get those honors, however; the Gamecocks programs is nearer the Gators in talent than they've ever been. On paper, the Gamecocks are at least the second best team in the SEC East. Of course they must prove it on the field.
