Texas Longhorns 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011

Texas Longhorns 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The Texas Longhorns nearly won their second National Championship under Mack Brown in January of this year, but the team fell to undefeated Alabama 21-37 after star quarterback Colt McCoy injured his shoulder midway through the first quarter. Not surprisingly, big things are expected from this year's Texas squad as well, even with the departure of McCoy and others. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com have the Longhorns listed as a +125 moneyline favorite to win the South and a +200 favorite to win the conference championship for a second consecutive season.

Filling Colt McCoy's shoes will be no easy task for the Longhorns as the Tuscola native threw for 13253 yards and 112 Texas Longhorns 2010 College Football Predictions - BCS Odds 2011touchdowns in four seasons at Texas. McCoy also rushed for 1589 yards and 20 scores, even leading the team in rushing his junior season. However, Vince Young also cast a large shadow in the Lone Star state, but McCoy proved that Texas could function and fuction well without him. Now its sophomore Garret Gilbert's turn to see if he can make the Longhorns go in the same manner his predecessor did.

Gilbert looked like the true freshman he was in January, having to replace McCoy on the biggest stage. The Austin native completed just 15 of his 40 pass attempts for 186 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. He kept his composure after two second quarter picks, though, and rallied Texas to within three points of the Tide with an early fourth quarter touchdown pass.

Given an entire offseason to prepare, Brown and his staff are confident that Gilbert will bring the same kind of qualities to the quarterback position that McCoy did, only with a bigger arm. He will need to as only five starters return from last season's unit, which averaged 39.3 points per game. In addition to McCoy, the offense also loses top receiver Jordon Shipley (116 catches, 1485 yards, 13 touchdowns), center Chris Hall, tackle Adam Ulatoski, and guard Charlie Tanner. Per usual, the Longhorns have a fresh crop of highly talented players ready to fill in, though, as Brown is one of the nation's top recruiters.

The Texas defense brings back seven starters and 19 lettermen and will again be under the guidance of head coach in waiting Will Muschamp. The Longhorns held teams to 16.7 points and 252 yards per game last year and they should be close to those numbers again, even with the departure of linebackers Roddrick Muckelroy and Sergio Knidle and safety Earl Thomas. Defensive tackle Sam Acho, who had 63 tackles and 10 sacks last year, still anchors the middle and junior Keenan Robinson (74 tackles) provides experience in the linebacking corp.

2010 College Football Predictions: 10-2 Overall, 6-2 Conference, Second Place Big 12 South.
