Heisman Trophy 2010 Favorites & Odds: With just under eight weeks until College Football Season 2010 kicks off, speculation on who will win the Heisman Trophy has gained momentum and oddsmakers at BetUS.com have posted winning odds on a number of the candidates.
Like in 2009, this year will see a Heisman winner returning to his school for another season of college football. Alabama's Mark Ingram, who won last December, will have the chance to join Ohio State's Archie Griffin as the only duel winner. Griffin won the award in the years 1972-73.
Other pre-season favorites include Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor (+500), Jake Locker of Washington (+800) and Arkansas' Ryan Mallett at +1000.
Picking the right player to win the Heisman can be a challenging. One rule of thumb is to choose a quarterback or running back. Other position players win on occasion but voters almost always go with a quarterback and running back. If choosing between a quarterback and running back, the quarterback is the best bet.
Ohio State's Pryor, at +500, is the top listed quarterback, slightly better than Locker at +800. Ryan Mallett, pundits favorite to win the Davey O'Brien Award for the nations top quarterback is listed third by oddsmakers at +1000. Mallett is also considered by experts to be the top pro prospect for the 2011 NFL Draft.
Other top quarterbacks listed on the BetUS Heisman Trophy board are Jacory Harris – Miami (+1200), Case Keenum – Houston (+1400) and Kellen Moore – Boise State (+1500).
Ingram, is the favorite to bring home the hardware for the second time at +350 but will be challenged by a host of other quality ball carriers like West Virginia's Noel Devine, listed on the BetUS Heisman board at +1200. Running backs expected to make a push are Pitt's Dion Lewis and Penn State's Evan Royster, both at +1400.
