Oklahoma Sooners 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The Sooners were one of the biggest disappointments in college football last season, floundering to an 8-5 finish after beginning the year with National Championship aspirations. Things went south for Oklahoma almost immediately with a week one loss to BYU that saw Heisman winner Sam Bradford go down with a shoulder injury that limited him to 69 pass attempts on the season. Despite last year's woes, 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com are expecting the Sooners to return to prominence this season as they are presently listed at +650 moneyline odds to win the BCS National Championship Game.
Bob Stoops has been nothing if not successful in his time at Oklahoma as last season's 8-5 record, a good result at
numerous programs around the country, marked his worst tally in Norman since going 7-5 in his inaugural season on the sidelines. It was also the third time in his 11 tenure at the school that he failed to reach a double digit win total. The Sooners record following the previous two single digit winning seasons under Stoops is a remarkable 24-3.
Given Stoops track record, Oklahoma fans are right to expect a rebound this year, especially with 13 starters and 47 lettermen returning to the team. The offense, which averaged 31.1 points and 424 yards per game in 2009, should benefit greatly from the experience quarterback Landry Jones garnered after being thrust into the lineup as a result of Bradford's injury. Jones threw for 3198 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions as a redshirt freshman and now stands poised to be one of the top passers in the conference.
The offense also returns its top four receivers, including Ryan Broyles (89 receptions, 1120 yards, 15 touchdowns) and running back DeMarco Murray. Murray had 41 catches and four receiving touchdowns as well as 705 rush yards and eight rushing scores in a stellar junior campaign.
The Sooners defense, which dominated most of its opposition a year ago with the exception of Kansas State (30 points) and Texas Tech (41 points), welcomes five starters back. Among the returnees are leading tacklers Travis Lewis (109) and Quinton Carter (88) and sack master Jeremy Beal (70 tackles, 11 sacks). While the unit will miss players like Gerald McCoy, Keenan Clayton, and Auston English, it should approach last year's numbers (14.5 points per game allowed, 273 yards per game allowed).
