Texas A&M Aggies 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: Texas A&M is still a long way away from returning to the success its glory days, but Aggies fans are hopeful that this year's squad might get the program a little closer. Head Coach Mike Sherman, who is heading into his third season with the program, guided the team to a 6-7 record last year, but has reason to feel optimistic with 55 lettermen returning to College Station. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com look for the Aggies to still be chasing the Longhorns and Sooners, with A&M presently listed at +400 moneyline odds to win the Big 12 South.
Last year Texas A&M featured an explosive offense as the team racked up 466 yards per game (184 rush, 282 pass) and
averaged 32.8 points per contest, its highest total since 1997. Seven starters and 25 lettermen are back from that group, including star quarterback Jerrod Johnson. Johnson threw for 3579 yards and 30 touchdowns (eight interceptions) while also rushing for 506 yards and eight scores in 2009.
In addition to Johnson, Sherman gets leading rusher Christine Michael and his top three receivers, Uzoma Nwachukwu, Ryan Tannehill, and Jeff Fuller, back. Michael totalled 844 rush yards (5.1 ypc) and 10 touchdowns while Nwachukwu, Tannehill, and Fuller combined for 127 receptions, 1885 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The offensive line returns two starters in Patrick Lewis (RG) and Evan Eike (LG), but will start a sophomore at right tackle and a redshirt freshman at left tackle.
To say the Aggies defense has been dreadful under Sherman is, perhaps, not strong enough. Texas A&M allowed 37.4 points and 462 yards per game in Sherman's first season. It did, however, reduce those to a still awful 33.5 and 426 in 2009. With nine starters and 26 lettermen back, including top tackler Trent Hunter (95) and sack specialist Von Miller (17), this year's unit figures to be Sherman's best yet. The team will also have a new defensive coordinator in Tim DeRuyter, who has been with Air Force the past three seasons.
