Wisconsin Badgers 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010

by Matt Foust on Saturday, July 18th, 2009

2009 College Football Odds: Last year Badgers Head Coach Bret Bielema suffered through the worst season of his brief tenure at Wisconsin, going 7-6 and finishing seventh in the Big 10. The team started 3-0, but opened conference play with four straight losses. Bielema returns 11 starters from last season's underachieving group and odds makers are looking for a potential rebound. BetUS.com has the Badgers season win total set at 8 with -120 odds in their Wisconsin Badgers 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010.Wisconsin Badgers 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

Dustin Sherer, who took over for an ineffective Allan Evridge at quarterback last year, could get the starting nod this Fall, but he will likely have to battle red shit freshmen Curt Phillips for the spot. Sherer threw for 1389 yards a season ago with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Whichever player helms the position, the numbers should be better than last year's totals. There is great talent at the skill positions as the top three receivers return, including standout tight end Garrett Graham, as well as second leading rusher John Clay. P.J.Hill led the team in rushing last season, but Clay ran for 884 yards (5.7 yards per carry) and nine touchdowns as a red shirt freshmen.

The offensive line, which plowed the way for 211 rushing yards per game in 2008, might not be as good as they lose three experienced starters.

The Badgers return five starters from a defense that gave up 26.5 points and 328 yards per game last year. Leading tackler, linebacker Jaevery McFadden, will be back with the team as will top sacker O'Brien Shofield (DE); however, they are the only two starters from last season's front seven to revisit Camp Randall.

The team does return three starters from an effective 2008 secondary. That could be critical for the squad as the pass rush and run defense may take a while to round into form.

Wisconsin opens the season with non-conference battles against Northern Illinois, Fresno State, and Wofford before hosting the Michigan State Spartans on September 26th.
