Pitt Panthers 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: Pittsburgh has battled its way to a 19-7 record over the past two seasons, effectively cooling the once hot seat of Head Coach Dave Wannstedt. While the past two years have been the best of the Wannstedt tenure, many are anticipating the Panthers first conference title under his direction in 2010. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com have Pitt listed at +250 moneyline odds to win the Big East and +5000 odds to take home its first national title since 1976.
Pittsburgh cruised to a 9-1 record last year and looked to be poised to win the Big East title heading into the final two weeks
of the season; however, the Panthers could not get it done against the Mountaineers or the Bearcats, losing those two games by a combined four points. Pitt did rebound in the Car Care Bowl, though, with a 19-17 victory against North Carolina to finish the year at 10-3.
Eleven starters and 49 lettermen are back from last season's stellar squad, which averaged 32.1 points and 392 yards per game. Among those not returning is quarterback Bill Stull, who threw for 2633 yards and 21 touchdowns. He will be replaced by sophomore Tino Sunseri. Sunseri threw just 17 passes in 2009 for 114 yards and two touchdowns. The young signal caller will be working behind a line that returns starters at both the tackle positions, but features an entirely new interior.
Sunseri will be aided by two of the better talents in college football working along side him in running back Dion Lewis and wide receiver Jon Baldwin. Lewis ran for 1799 yards and 17 touchdowns as a true freshman last season while Baldwin reeled in 57 catches for 1111 yards and eight scores.
The defense, which was the best of the Wannstedt era after allowing just 19.8 points per game, welcomes back six starters, including top tacklers Max Gruber and Dom DeCicco. Also back are five players who recorded four or more sacks for the Panthers last year with defensive end Greg Romeus leading that group. Romeous produced 43 tackles, eight sacks, and five blocked passes in an outstanding junior campaign.
