2009 College Football Odds: Cincinnati Head Coach Brian Kelly guided his team to a second straight double digit win season last year, which earned them a conference title and Orange Bowl bid. The 2009 Bearcats, which return just nine starters from last season's 11-3 squad, might find the sledding a little more difficult in the Big East this year. BetUS.com has the team listed at +800 on the moneyline to repeat as champion in the bookmaker's Cincinnati Bearcats 2009 College Football Odds — BCS Odds 2010.Cincinnati Bearcats 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

The Cincinnati offense should be in fine form this year as they return eight starters from last season's decent unit. The Bearcats posted an average of 25.9 points (23.5 in conference play) and 371 yards in Kelly's second year with the team. The main skill pieces, quarterback Tony Pike, receiver Mardy Gilyard, and running backs Isaiah Pead and John Goebel, all revisit the roster as will three starting offensive linemen.

Pike, limited by a broken arm in his junior campaign, still threw for 2407 yards and 19 touchdowns (11 interceptions). His main target, Gilyard, was one of the top receiving threats in the country a season ago, reeling in 81 receptions for 1276 yards and 11 touchdowns. Pead, as a true freshmen, amassed just 194 yards rushing, but he averaged a stellar 6.5 yards per carry.

The Bearcats defense was the strength of the team last year, holding opposing squads to 20.1 points per game and a lowly 3.3 yards per carry. This year will, undoubtedly, be a different story. Just one starter, strong safety Aaron Webster, returns. The entire front seven is gone, including the top five tacklers as well as the two leading sackers. Kelly is also shifting to a 3-4 defensive front, which could take the team awhile to become adept at.

To go along with the massive turnover in personnel on defense, is a brutal non-conference slate, which features battles against Oregon State, Fresno State, and Illinois. The Bearcats open the season September 7th with a road game against Big East rival Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights will be looking to exact a little revenge as they lost 13-10 to Cincinnati last year at Nippert Stadium in Ohio.
