LSU Tigers 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011

by Reno Gold on Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

LSU Tigers 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The LSU Tigers football team will be looking to improve on its 9-4 record from a year ago, a difficult task indeed considering the power in the SEC has taken a definite shift to the West. Tigers' fans are accustomed to being in the thick of the SEC battle but with Alabama winning the 2010 BCS Championship and the Arkansas and Auburn programs improved, LSU has little room for error. And going undefeated in the league will be next to impossible.

LSU will need better production from its quarterback Jordan Jefferson to compete for any championships. Jefferson missed on an opportunity to take over the team in 2009 after showing positive signs at the end of 2008. Unfortunately, he hasn't developed the way coaches hoped he would since arriving on campus two years ago. Jefferson must turn it up a notch if LSU is to compete with the likes of Alabama, Arkansas and Auburn in the division.

A major cause of LSU's quarterback problems was in ineffective offensive line. In 2009 the unit was near the bottom of the SEC statistics, 11th in conference rushing and last in sacks allowed.

Defensively, LSU must re-tool its defensive line, a unit that is traditionally strong. No doubt, defensive coordinator John Chavis will be looking at Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, one of the best in the SEC, to lead this partially rebuilt unit.

LSU has lost nine games total in 2008-09, a figure that does not sit well with the LSU faithful. If the Tigers fall short of a January 1st bowl following the 2010 season, coach Les Miles could be in trouble in Baton Rouge.
