Connecticut Huskies 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

2009 College Football Odds: UConn Head Coach Randy Edsall watched his team secure eight wins for the fourth time in the last six seasons when the Huskies blasted Buffalo 38-20 in the International Bowl. The post-season win, which was just the second in the history of Connecticut football, brought the Huskies 2008 record to 8-5. Online bookmaker Sportsbetting.com has the team's 2009 regular season win total set at 6.5 with the under a -200 favorite in their Connecticut Huskies 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010. Edsall will bring back 12 starters from a season ago, but he only has 37 lettermen returning. The team is still talented, though, and should be anything but push-over in the eight team Big East.

Offensively the team will greatly miss running back Donald Brown. Brown, who was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Colts, rushed for 2083 (5.7 yards per carry) and 18 touchdowns as a junior last season. He will likely be replaced by senior Andre Dixon or sophomore Jordan Todman. Todman had 296 rushing yards last year but averaged a ridiculous 6.3 yards per carry.

The Huskies also return a highly experienced offensive line, which helped produce over 216 rushing yards per game last season. This year they will be called upon to protect junior passer Zach Frazer, who will take over for the departing Tyler Lorenzen. Frazer threw for 536 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions filling in for the injured Lorenzen in 2008.

The Huskies defense brings back six starters from a squad that limited its opposition to just 278 yards per game on average. However, they lose their two best players in defensive end Cody Brown and cornerback Darius Butler. Brown had 56 tackles, 11 sacks, and eight passes broken up as a senior while Butler had 40 tackles and four passes broken up. Both players were selected within the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.

On a positive note, the defense will have its top four tacklers back, including linebacker Scott Lutrus, who had 106 takes downs last year.

Connecticut opens their schedule at Ohio on September 5th. Their first conference clash is October 10th at Pittsburgh.
