Indiana Hoosiers 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: As usual, the Indiana University Hoosiers football team will be picked to finish at or near the bottom of the BIG TEN before the season ever starts. Oddsmakers generally concur with pundits listing IU at the bottom of college football betting boards.
There is some optimism among fans for Bill Linch's fourth season at the helm as head coach. Following last season's 4-8 record, Indiana returns eight of 11 starters on offense including senior quarterback Ben Chappell. In 2009 Chappell threw for 2,941 yards and 17 touchdowns. Chappell should get some help in the backfield with the return of tail-back Darium Willis. Also returning are a trio of quality receivers, Terrance Turner, Tandon Doss and Damarlo Belcher who were credited for 2,175 yards on 184 receptions and 11 touchdowns. The offensive line will have plenty of experience with three starters returning.
If there is an area of concern for Indiana followers is the defense. While the offense will surely score its share of points, it's the defense, with only four of 11 starters returning in 2010.
Lynch is on the hot seat for this season and probably needs to find a way to get IU into the post season to keep his job. The good news is the Hoosiers are not alone in the lower BIG TEN pecking order. Several schools are rebuilding including Purdue, Illinois and Michigan. The Hoosiers have a chance to win those games and if they do could go 6-6 or 7-5. Indiana has a chance to start the season 4-0 before traveling to play Ohio State with early games versus Towson, at Western Kentucky, versus Akron and Michigan.
