2009 College Football Odds: The South Florida Bulls had their third consecutive winning season last year, going 8-5 after pounding Memphis 41-14 in the St. Petersburg Bowl. Despite scoring their second post-season win in the last three years, Jim Leavitt's troops were a dismal 2-5 in Big East action. Jim Leavitt will see the return of 12 starters for last year's bowl squad, including senior quarterback Matt Grothe. Grothe threw for 2911 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior and he also led the team in rushing with a total of 579 yards on the ground. 

The Bulls offensive line should have good depth but they return just one starter. Grothe will, however, have familar skill players around him as the top three running backs as well as the top receiver from a year ago, Jessie Hester, all return.

The Bulls defense was one of the best in the Big East last year, holding teams to 20 points and a ridiculous 288 yards per game on average. Their run defense was one of the best in the nation, giving up an average of just 95 yards per game (2.8 yards per carry).

They will again be formidable as their highly touted defensive line will be anchored by 2007 All American George Selvie. Selvie has produced 20 sacks and 45 tackles for loss over the last two seasons.

In additon to the return of Selvie, the team also has four of their top six tacklers from a season ago back on campus. 

The Bulls should have an easy win out of box, hosting Wofford on September 5th. However, their conference schedule has them on the road against two of the tougher Big East opponents, as they play at Pittsburgh (Oct. 24th) and at Rutgers (Nov. 12th). USF also has non-conference games against Florida State and Miami, FL.
