Minnesota Golden Gophers 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: Tim Brewster is beginning his fourth year heading the Minnesota Golden Gopher football program where he is 14-24 through his first three seasons. Brewster coached the Golden Gophers to a 6-6 regular season (6-7 overall) in 2009, a record that qualified the team for the post season. In the Insight Bowl Minnesota lost to Iowa State.
This is a pivotal year for Brewster and his coaching staff. The Gopher offense was near the worst last year and the defense lost nine senior starters. If Minnesota can't put a defense on the field to stop anybody, this year could be Brewsters last.
Minnesota will have plenty of young players to prepare for the 2010 season including 22 redshirt freshman and 16 sophomores.
It is expected that senior quarterback Adam Weber will be the starter in 2010. He had two good seasons as a starter before last season's implosion. At least this year he should be more familiar with the pro-style offense installed last year. New offensive coordinator Jeff Horton has simplified the playbook, a move that should help. If Weber stumbles as the starter look for the athletic MarQueis Gray to step in.
The offensive line was terrible last year, a unit way short on experience. All five starters return and are sure to be better. The Gophers' success in 2010 will hinge upon better play from the offensive line.
How do you replace nine departing starters on defense? The only returning starters are two safeties, Kim royston and Kyle Theret.
The Golden Gophers will be picked to finish at the bottom or near the bottom of the 2010 BCS Standings.
