2009 College Football Odds: Thankfully for Syracuse fans, the Greg Robinson era was brought to end after four horrendous seasons. Robinson, much like he did to the defense of the Kansas City Chiefs, drove the program into a ditch and left the scene without so much as turning the hazard lights on. Former Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marrone has been charged with cleaning up the wreckage, but no one is expecting much this year. BetUS.com has Syracuse listed at +5500 moneyline odds to win the Big East in their Syracuse Orange 2009 College Football Odds.Syracuse Orange 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

Greg Robinson guided Syracuse to a 3-25 conference record in his four seasons on the sideline for the Orange. Last year the beleagured group averaged just 16 points per game in Big East play while giving up 31.6 per outing to league foes. They did not fare any better over the course of the entire schedule, averaging 18.1 and giving up 32.7.

However, new coach Doug Marrone, who has coordinated the Saints high-octane offense for the past three years, does have a little bit with which to work. The team returns 14 starters, seven on offense and seven on defense, as well as 45 lettermen.

Last year's starting quarterback, Cameron Dantley, returns but after throwing for just 1298 yards a season ago, Marrone has tabbed redshirt freshman Ryan Nassib to man the position. He, however, could be pushed by true freshman Charlie Loed and, possibly, Dantley.

Three of the top four rushers return, but gone is Curtis Brinkley, who had 1164 yards rushing and seven touchdowns last year. The three leading receivers are all back on campus and should have an opportunity to excel in Marrone's new system.

Defensively the Orange were abysmal in almost every facet last season. In addition to the 32.7 points per game they allowed, the 'Cuse defense also gave up an average of 415 yards per game, 189 of which came on the ground.

Syracuse did not make up for their inability to stop the run with an above average pass rush either. The team produced a paltry 16 sacks, which led to an overworked secondary.

Despite the poor numbers, the experience that the returning players garnered last year should lead to some improved play this year.

The Orange open up the season, and a brutal non-conference schedule, on September 5th at the Carrier Dome when the face the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Syracuse will also play Penn State (away), Northwestern, and Maine before their first Big East game on October 3rd (South Florida at the Carrier Dome).
