Louisville Cardinals 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011

Louisville Cardinals 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The Louisville football program has been in a steady decline since the departure of Bobby Petrino at the end of the 2006 season. School officials are hoping to reverse that course this season with the hiring of former Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, who will replace the departed Steve Kragthorpe. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com presently have the Cardinals listed at +800 moneyline odds to win the Big East, which puts them just ahead of Syracuse in the eight team conference.

Steve Kragthorpe never gained his footing at Louisville after taking over what was a highly successful program under Louisville Cardinals 2010 College Football Predictions - BCS Odds 2011Petrino, posting a 15-21 record in three seasons at the school. The low came last year, though, when he guided the Cardinals to a 4-8 overall record and last place finish in the Big East (1-6 conference). The poor result led to the hiring of Charlie Strong, who was a standout coordinator at both Florida and South Carolina. Along with Strong, the school also welcomes new offensive and defensive coordinators in Mike Sanford and Vance Bedford.

Strong and Sanford get eight starters and 22 letterman back from last season's abysmal offensive unit (18.1 points and 334 yards per game), including quarterback Adam Froman and leading rushers Victor Anderson and Darius Ashley. Froman only attempted 185 passes last year but he connected on 60 percent of them for 1354 yards and six touchdowns. Anderson and Ashley combined for 935 yards and nine touchdowns (4.9 yards per carry).

The offensive line looks to be in good shape as last year's starting center, right guard, right tackle, and left tackle all return to Louisville. The stability upfront, in addition to Sanford's dynamic scheming, will lead to much improved offensive numbers in 2010.

The Cardinals defense played horribly last season as well, allowing 29.7 points and 405 yards per game in conference play. Bedford and Strong will have four starters and 23 lettermen back from that group, including cornerback Johnny Patrick (53 tackles, five passes defended, two interceptions) and linebacker Brandon Heath (48 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions). While much work remains to be done, Louisville would be hard pressed to finish the 2010 season with worse numbers than last year's unit.

Louisville has a couple of difficult non-conference games in Kentucky and Oregon State, but should get wins over Eastern Kentucky, Arkansas State, and Memphis. Anything can happen in conference play, but the Cardinals best shot at a Big East win looks to be against Syracuse in New York. Louisville will host Cincinnati, Connecticut, South Florida, and West Virginia, but will be out-gunned against each of those foes.
