Purdue Boilermakers 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The Purdue Boilermakers finished 5-7 in 2009 and it was considered an accomplishment. In a season few people thought would win three games, Purdue seemed to put things together and scratch out a 5-7 record. Now second year head coach Danny Hope needs to find a way to get his Boilermakers into a bowl game and quickly.

Purdue Boilermakers 2010 College Football Predictions - BCS Odds 2011Fans should not expect the Boilermakers to win any championships this season. Online sportsbook BetUS.com lists Purdue's odds of winning the 2011 BCS championship at +20000 or 200-to-1. Purdue is listed on the BetUS BIG TEN board at +2000 or 20-to-1 odds to win the conference championship.

The 2010 Boilermakers are a bit of a mystery as we near August drills. The team lost 2009 starting quarterback Joey Elliot to graduation and it appears they will go with Miami-Florida transfer Robert Marve to lead the offense. There is an outside chance that Marve could be beat out by sophomore Caleb TerBush before the season starts.

Purdue caught a tough break in the Spring, losing sophomore tail back Ralph Bolden to a torn ACL. Bolden was expected to carry much of the load this year. In 2009 Bolden ran for 835 yards, averaging  4.68 yards per carry including nine touchdowns. There is a slight chance Bolden could return but late in the season. Chances are he will redshirt to return healthy next year.

One mans loss equals an another man's opportunity and that falls on sophomore running back Al-terek McBurse. He will also double as the premier return man for the Boilermakers.

On defense, Purdue will be replacing four defensive backs, but look pretty solid every where else. No doubt, the defense will be led by returning All-Big Ten senior defensive tackle Ryan Kerrigan. In 2009 Kerrigan had 65 tackles, 11 sacks and forced six fumbles.

Kerrigan will get plenty of help on defense with returning linebackers Joe Holland, Chris Carlino and Jason Werner.

Purdue opens its season at Notre Dame. No doubt the Boilermakers will get plenty of attention in that one, Brian Kelly's head coaching debut for the Irish. Following that game Purdue will play some lower profile games against Western Illinois, Ball State and Toledo. Their conference slate includes Northwestern and Minnesota (at home), at Ohio State and Illinois, then Wisconsin and Michigan at home, at Michigan State and Indiana at home.

Purdue will probably struggle in 2010 and getting bowl qualified will be a reach. It all has to do with how the offense comes together. At least the Boilermaker defense should be solid enough to win some games on its own while the offense finds itself. We project Purdue squeaks out six wins at best.
