2009 College Football Odds: Bill Stewart got off to a rocky start taking over for Rich Rodriguez as the Mountaineers were 1-2 out of the gate after being stunned at East Carolina and at Colorado. However, West Virginia rebounded to finish the year at 9-4 and won the Mieneke Car Care Bowl 31-30 over North Carolina. Sportsbetting.com is looking for another solid season out of the Mountaineers as the online bookmaker has West Virginia's regular season win total set at 8.5 in their West Virginia Mountaineers 2009 College Football Odds.West Virginia Mountaineers 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

West Virginia returns 12 starters from last year's bowl squad, but they will no longer have quarterback Pat White running the offense. Stewart has opted for a more pass oriented offense with White moving onto the NFL, and he will look to senior Jarrett Brown to assume the quarterbacking responsibilities. Brown threw just 30 passes last year for 114 yards.

Aiding Brown will be one of the nation's top running backs. Noel Devine ran for 1289 yards as a sophomore, scoring four touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Devine also caught 35 passes out of the backfield.

West Virginia's top two receivers also return to Morgantown. Alric Arnett and Jock Sanders combined for 88 receptions, 928 yards, and 13 touchdowns a season ago.

The Mountaineers defense was one of the best in the country last year, holding opponents to a meager 17 points per game. The top three tacklers from the unit have moved on, but a number of major contributors will again be under the command of defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel.

The secondary is highly experienced and the linebacking group welcomes the return of 2007's leading tackler, Reed Williams. Williams missed most of last year with shoulder problems. The defensive line will be anchored by tackles Scooter Berry and Chris Neild. Collectively the two players had 81 tackles and four sacks in 2008.

West Virginia opens the season on September 5th with a home game against Liberty. The rest of their non-conference schedule is a tough slate that includes battles against East Carolina, Auburn, and Colorado. The Mountaineers first taste of Big East action will take place on October 1st when they meet the Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome in New York.
