Oregon Ducks 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: Oregon got off to a rocky start in Chip Kelly's first year on the sidelines, falling to Boise State 19-3 in week one after amassing just 121 yards of offense. The Ducks got things turned around quickly, though, going on to win their next seven games and eventually finishing first in the Pac 10 with a 10-2 record. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com have Oregon pegged for another conference title this season as the Ducks are presently listed at +250 moneyline odds to win the Pac 10.
Oregon looked nothing like a Rose Bowl team in its season opening loss to Boise State, but Chip Kelly, who served as Mike
Bellotti's offensive coordinator before taking over as head coach, fashioned the Ducks into exactly that as the year progressed. He will attempt to guide Oregon to another conference championship this season with the services of 17 starters and 46 lettermen from last year's squad.
Kelly will no longer have quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who was kicked off the team for his involvement in an on-campus robbery, meaning the job will probably fall to highly touted sophomore Darron Thomas or senior Nate Costa. Regardless of who starts, they will have a difficult task matching Masoli's production as he threw for 2147 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 668 yards and 13 scores last season. However, Thomas or Costa will have the benefit of working behind what should be one of the best offensive lines in the nation as all five starters from last year's unit return.
Also returning are running back LaMichael James and wide out Jeff Maehl. James won Pac 10 Player of the Year honors last season after rushing for 1546 yards (6.7 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman while Maehl led the team in receiving with 53 catches for 696 yards and six scores.
The Oregon defense, which held teams to 23.8 points and 336 yards per game in 2009, brings back eight starters and 23 lettermen. Among those returning to Eugene are safety John Boyett (90 tackles, five passess defended, three interceptions), linebacker Spencer Paysinger (81 tackles, 6.5 tackle for loss, seven passes defended), and defensive end Kenny Rowe (43 tackles, 11.5 sacks, four passes defended).
The Ducks non-conference slate shapes up nicely with the only potential stumbling block being a September 11th game at Tennessee; however, their Pac 10 schedule features road games against USC, California, and Oregon State. Despite the difficult conference draw, Oregon looks to be the class of the conference once again.
