2009 College Football Odds: Nebraska is one of the most prestigious college football programs in the nation, but it has not recorded a double digit win season since 2003. The team went 9-4 last year under first year Head Coach Bo Pelini; his success has Cornhuskers fans hoping the defensive minded leader can fashion this year's squad into a Big 12 North winner. Sportsbook.com currently has the Huskers regular season win total set a 8 with the over a -120 in their Nebraska Cornhuskers 2009 College Football Odds.Nebraska Cornhuskers 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

Nebraska fielded a fine offensive unit last year under the direction of Bill Callahan holdover Shawn Watson. The Huskers averaged 35.4 points per game while racking up an average of 451 yards per contest. Quarterback Joe Ganz set a school passing record by throwing for 3568 yards (25 touchdowns). The running game was also productive, posting 170 per outing with a commendable 4.5 yards per carry average.

Ganz is gone this year and will most likely be replaced by junior Zac Lee. Lee has thrown just two passes for Nebraska and will have a difficult time equaling Ganz production level.

Lee, however, will be aided by having one of the best offensive lines in the Big 12 providing protection for him. The run game should also be as good or better than it was last year as leading rusher Roy Helu returns after going for 803 yards and seven touchdowns (6.4 yards per carry) as a sophomore.

The Nebraska defense certainly suffered a setback during the Callahan regime, but they took a step in the right direction last season under the tutelage of Pelini and his brother Carl (defensive coordinator). The team limited opponents to 350 yards per game and held opposing ground attacks to an average of 3.6 yards per carry. They also had 35 sacks and 12 interceptions.

The top four tacklers from 2008's defense return, including first team all Big 12 performer, Ndamkong Suh. Last season Suh had 76 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions from the defensive tackle position.

Nebraska opens the season on September 5th with a non-conference game against Florida Atlantic. The Huskers first Big 12 contest will take place on October 8th at Missouri.
