2009 College Football Odds: Mike Gundy finally broke the seven win mark in Stillwater last year as he guided the Cowboys to a 9-4 finish and an appearance in the Holiday Bowl. In Gundy's previous three years he went 4-7, 7-6, and 7-6. This season he has one of the more talented teams in the Big 12, if not the country, but odds makers at Sportsbook.com are favoring OSU to finish under nine wins (-130) in their Oklahoma State Cowboys 2009 College Football Odds. The Cowboys had an explosive offense a year ago cranking out almost 500 yards per contest. In fact, it was so good that the Pokes stayed in the hunt for the Big 12 South title late into the season. OSU averaged 40.8 points and 245 rush yards per game in Gundy's fourth season on the sidelines, ultimately finishing fourth in the division with a 5-3 conference record. The key components to last year's offensive success, with the exception of tight end Brandon Pettigrew, are all back with the team in 2009. Quarterback Zac Robinson, who threw for 3064 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior, will again be the signal caller. Robinson does not get the same kind of acclaim that Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford do, but he is just as critical to the Cowboys success as those two are to the success of their respective programs. In addition to his throwing prowess, Robinson is also a gifted runner. He was OSU's third leading rusher in 2008, racking up 562 yards on the ground to go along with eight rushing touchdowns. Also back are arguably the two best skill position players in the country in running back Kendall Hunter and wide receiver Dez Bryant. Hunter garnered first team All American honors after rushing for 1555 yards and 16 touchdowns (6.5 yards per carry). Bryant was also a first team All American, reeling in 87 receptions for 1480 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Cowboys defense returns six starters from a group that allowed 28.1 points per game. Five of the front seven are revisiting Stillwater, including top tackler Andre Sexton (LB) and defensive end Ugo Chinasa. The biggest question mark on the entire team, however, is the secondary. Three starters are gone and only cornerback Perrish Cox has any significant experience. Oklahoma State opens the year with a home game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Their first conference game will be October 10th when the meet the Aggies of Texas A&M in College Station.
