Florida State Seminoles 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The Florida State Seminoles have been predicted to win the Atlantic Coast Conference football championship in 18 of their 19 years of membership but this year placed second to Virginia Tech in preseason balloting among media members who cover ACC football at the ACC Media Kickoff meetings in Greensboro, N.C. last week.
Former offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher officially took over the FSU head coaching job on Jan. 5, 2010 after legendary coach Bobby Bowden retired. Fisher was formerlly offensive coordinator at LSU and Auburn before coming to Florida State. What's good for Fisher is the Seminoles' cupboard is not bare. The team returns 18 starters, 10 of those on offense, and six on defense and two specialists for the 2010 season.
Fisher also welcomes a new coach with an impressive resume to coordinate the defense in Mark Stoops who arrives from Arizona. Improving the defense will be a major priority in 2010. FSU did not rank higher than 77th nationally in any major defensive category. But the Seminoles do welcome back six starters including three upfront in DE Markus White and DT's Moses McCray and Everett Dawkins. Also returning are FSU's top two tacklers in LB's Kendall Smith (85) and Kendall Smith (85).
After an erratic start in 2009, the Seminoles won their final seven games and earned its 28th consecutive bowl trip, where they defeated West Virginia 33-21 in the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl. The Seminoles finished with a 4-4 ACC record, good enough for third place in the Atlantic Division. The finish was more impressive by the fact that FSU saw starting QB Chritian Ponder have a spectacular season derailed by a season ending shoulder injury in the season's ninth game. Ponder returns healthy and ready to go for the 2010 season. The senior quarterback was tabbed as ACC Offensive Player of the Year at the 2010 ACC Kickoff meetings.
Despite only playing nine games, Ponder, the 6-2, 219 pound senior signal caller, led the Seminoles in total offense of 321.8 yards per game. Ponder is considered an all-America, Davey O'Brien, and Heisman Trophy awards candidate in 2010.
Florida State will meet seven opponents this fall who participated in post-season bowl games last season including arch rival Florida, Oklahoma, BYU, Miami(Fla), North Carolina, Clemson, and Boston College.
2010 Predictions: We see FSU as a sleeping giant. As one of the three traditional Florida power schools, could be ready to dominate the top of the charts as it did in the 80's and 90's. While many pundits favor Virginia Tech to win the league in 2010, we will go with oddsmakers who like the Noles.
