Texas A&M Aggies 2009 College Football Odds – BCS Odds 2010

2009 College Football Odds: Oh how the mighty have fallen. Texas A&M, one of the most storied programs in all of college football, fell to the bottom of the Big 12 South last year with a 4-8 record. The Aggies went just 2-6 in conference play in Head Coach Mike Sherman's first season in College Station, all but killing any expectations coming into this year. Online bookmaker BetUS.com has A&M listed at +4000 on the moneyline to win the conference championship in their Texas A&M Aggies 2009 College Football Odds.Texas A&M Aggies 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

The Texas A&M offense was respectable last season, averaging 25 points and 341 yards per game while learning a new system. The unit should be vastly improved this year as 10 starters return, including quarterback Jerrod Johnson. Johnson threw for 2435 yards and 21 touchdowns as sophomore a season ago, and he also had three rushing scores.

Two of the top three rushers return, including Johnson, and five of the top six receivers are back. Wide receiver Ryan Tannehill, who was a third team freshmen All American in 2008, may play some at quarterback as he was converted to wideout from signal caller by Sherman last spring. But after the numbers he posted as a pass catcher (55 receptions, 844 yards, five touchdowns), he will almost certainly lineup as a receiver the good majority of the time.

Jeff Fuller and tight end Jamie McCoy, in addition to Tannehill, give Johnson a trio of highly talented targets.

The Aggies defense was nothing short of horrendous last year, allowing 37.4 points and 462 yards per game. Six starters from the careworn squad return to College Station, including leading tackler Matt Featherston and top sacker Von Miller.

There is some hope for defensive coordinator Joe Kines as those back on campus will have no doubt gotten better over the spring. Additionally, the team recruited well along the line, which should bolster a run defense that gave up 219 yards per game in '08 (5.2 yards per carry).

Texas A&M kick starts the 2009 season with a September 5th home game versus New Mexico at Kyle Field. Their first conference game is scheduled for October 10th, also at Kyle Field, against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
