Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The USA Today football poll was released on Friday and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 17. It's good news to Rambling Wreck nation that their football team is so highly regarded nationally but there is bad news too. Georgia Tech is one of four teams in the six team ACC Coastal Division ranked and in a poll of media members who cover ACC football were picked to finish third in the division at the recent ACC Kickoff meetings in Greensboro, N.C.
The BCS Board at online sportsbook BetUS.com lists the Yellow Jackets odds on winning the 2011 BCS National Championship at 50-to-1 or +500. Based on a fictitous $100 bet, a gamblers take on the wager would be $500, of course providing Georgia Tech won the championship.
BetUS oddsmakers have the Yellow Jackets third best to win the ACC Coastal Division at +500, third best behind favorite Miami at +150 and North Carolina at +250. Odds on Georgia Tech winning the ACC outright are posted at +900.
The Yellow Jackets offense will be about the same in 2010 but minus a key ingredient, running back Jonathan Dwyer, who has departed for the NFL along with wide-out Demaryius Thomas. On the plus side, quarterback Joshua Nesbitt returns to direct the option attack. Nesbitt rushed for 1,037 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2009. His weakness is in the passing game where he failed to complete half of his passing attempts.
As the Yellow Jackets beging August drills, third year coach Paul Johnson is setting plenty of focus on his defense, now under the direction of former Virginia coach Al Groh who installed a 3-4 defense in the spring. The Tech defense has some holes to fill with two of its better players, defensive end Derrick Morgan and strong safety Morgan Burnett opting out for the NFL Draft.
It will be difficult for the Yellow Jackets to repeat as ACC champs in 2010 but they should have an eight win season. Other than playing Georgia, their non-conference schedule looks harmless except for a Sept. 11 trip to play Kansas at Lawrence. The Yellow Jackets avoid catching Florida State in conference play but will be lining up against North Carolina, clemson, Virginia Tech and Miami.
