Boston College Eagles 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: The Boston College Eagles football team heads into the 2010 college football season flying a little under the radar in Frank Spaziani's second year coaching the team. The Eagles will enter the season un-ranked in the preseason USA-Today/Coaches poll and are picked in to finish third in the ACC Atlantic Division behind Florida State and Clemson.
The college football futures board at online sportsbook BetUS.com has the Eagles listed as long shots to win the 2011 BCS Championship at +12,000 or 120-to-1. Odds on BC even reaching the BCS Championship game are 40-to-1. In other 2010 preseason odds, BetUS lists the Eagles at +300 to win the ACC Atlantic Division and +800 to win the ACC championship outright.
The best way to describe the 2010 Eagles is to call them a sleeper. They aren't among the top picks to win a championship but the schools who happen to dot their schedule will look to the North with rattled nerves before having to play them. In other words, nobody has the Eagles circled on their schedule as a sure win; especially if they have to play at Chestnut Hill as does Virginia Tech and Clemson. One potential road-block for Boston College this season will be their Oct. 16 trip to Tallahassee to play Florida State.
Boston College absolutely hangs its hat on the defense, a unit that should be stronger than ever this campaign. Defensive Coordinator and linebackers coach Bill McGovern is basically custodian to the defense installed and run by Spaziani for so many years when coordinating the defense. Fans can expect this to be an aggressive and blitzing bunch led by a host of linebackers including former ACC Defensive Player of the Year Mark Herzlich, who missed all of 2009 while battling cancer. He will be joined for the first time by sophomore Luke Kuechly who exploaded onto the scene last year and finished the season ranked second nationally in solo tackles and overall tackles. Also joining an already brutal linebacking corps will be prospect Kevin Pierre-Louis.
Barring any unforeseen collapse, the Eagles should at least repeat their 8-4 regular season record and get to a pretty good bowl game.
