2009 College Football Odds: What does a 9-5 season and a first place finish in the ACC's Atlantic division get a school? Not a lot of respect apparently. Boston College accomplished both of those things last year and they return 14 starters from 2008, but they are not receiving favorable odds to finish atop the conference standings. Boston College Eagles 2009 College Football Odds at Sportsbook.com currently have the Eagles listed at +1500 odds to win the ACC.Boston College Eagles 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

Boston College fired coach Jeff Jagodzinski in the off-season after he interviewed for one of the many NFL head coaching vacancies. Jagodzinski was 20-8 in his two year tenure at BC, but the school felt strongly enough about his looking for greener pastures that they terminated him. Taking over for Jagodzinski is long time defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani.

Spaziani has inherited a talented group of players on both sides of the ball. The offense loses starting quarterback Chris Crane, but filling in is sophomore Dominique Davis. Davis split time with Crane last year and threw for 741 yards and six touchdowns.

Leading rusher Montel Harris returns along with leading touchdown catcher, receiver Rich Gunnell. Harris ran for 900 yards and five touchdowns last year as a freshman while Gunnell hauled in 49 passes for 551 yards and four touchdowns in his junior campaign.

The offensive line returns four starters as well as most of the backups and should be one of the best in the ACC.

The Eagles defense was the strength of the team last year, holding teams to an average of 18.4 points and 268 yards per game. The front seven was particularly strong as it produced nearly 35 sacks and limited opposing rushing attacks to just 2.8 yards per carry.

Spaziani will have to deal with some big losses up front as tackles B.J. Raji and Ron Brace have moved on to the NFL, but the unit could still be one of the top in the ACC. The secondary and linebacking corps are deep and experienced, led by cornerback Roderick Rollins and linebacker Mark Herzlich. Herzlich led the team in tackles last season with 110 and he also had three sacks and six interceptions. His outstanding performance earned him ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Boston College begins its 2009 college football season with a September 5th home game against Northeastern. The Eagles first ACC action comes on September 19th when they face Clemson on the road.
