2009 College Football Odds: The Terps had their second winning season in the last five years in 2008, going 8-5 and finishing third in the ACC's Atlantic division with a 4-4 conference record. Maryland capped off Head Coach Ralph Friedgen's eighth year with a 42-35 win over Nevada in the Humanitarian Bowl. Despite last year's solid conclusion, it looks like 2009 might be a rebuilding year in College Park. Online bookmaker SBGglobal.com has the Terrapins win total set at 6 and the under is presently a -200 favorite in their Maryland Terrapins 2009 College Football Odds.Maryland Terrapins 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

The Terrapins offense was anything but potent last season, averaging just 21.8 points per game. However, the team's ground game was solid, producing 144 yards per outing while averaging a respectable 4.3 yards per carry. The running attack should once again be the strength of the unit as leading rusher Da'Rel Scott returns. Scott ran for 1133 yards and eight touchdowns in 2008.

Quarterback Chris Turner is also back with the team after throwing for 2516 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions as a junior. The biggest issue for both Scott and Turner will be whether or not the offensive line can block. Just two starters are back up front and a good deal of last year's depth is gone as well.

Maryland's defense was respectable in 2008 as a solid defensive line and linebacking crew helped limit opponents to an average of 22.5 points per game. The unit was even stronger in ACC play as conference foes posted just 21.8 per game against Ralph Friedgen's defense.

This year's defense returns just four starters and will be directed by new coordinator Don Brown. Brown comes over from the University of Massachusetts where he guided his team to the FCS Championship Game in 2006.

Brown does have last season's leading tackler, linebacker Alex Wujciak (133), to work with, but the rest of the front seven does not have a tremendous amount of experience. The secondary, however, should be in relatively good shape with four senior starters.

The Terps open the year with a tough non-conference tilt at California on September 5th. Their first ACC contest is scheduled for October 3rd against Clemson at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Maryland.
