San Diego State Aztecs 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: San Diego State did not turn the corner last season under new Head Coach Brady Hoke, but the Aztecs have a definite opportunity to improve this season with several starters returning to the program. 2010 College Football Predictions at Sportsbook.com do not have specific odds on Hoke's squad, leaving San Diego State under the "Field -  Any Other Team" banner or at +10000 moneyline odds to win the BCS National Championship.

San Diego State went 4-8 last season, Head Coach Brady Hoke's first with the team, but the Aztecs showed signs that they San Diego State Aztecs 2010 College Football Predictions - BCS Odds 2011could be more than a Mountain West speed bump going forward. Many are anticipating the football program to chart a better course this season with 16 starters and 44 lettermen returning to play for Hoke.

If the Aztecs are to turn things around, it will probably be the result of an improved offense. Last season the team averaged 23.3 points and 342 yards per game, but, despite those mediocre numbers, it has the potential to be a highly productive unit this year.

Junior quarterback Ryan Lindley, who threw for 3054 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2009, could be a dark horse Heisman candidate, especially with the returning talent around him. Four starters from the offensive line are back as well as last season's top two receivers, DeMarco Sampson (62 receptions, 851 yards, eight touchdowns) and Vincent Brown (45 receptions, 778 yards, six touchdowns).

Leading rushers Brandon Sullivan and Walter Kazee are also back on campus. The pair combined for 929 yards and six touchdowns a season ago.

San Diego State's defense must improve dramatically if the team hopes to reach its full potential and contend in a tough Mountain West conference this season. The Aztecs gave up 30.5 points and 382 yards per game in 2009 and an even worse 32.9 and 417 in conference play. While those numbers are horrific, they are significantly better than what the unit yielded in 2008 (37.2 points, 461 yards).

If the defense is to progress, it will have to do so without four of its top five tacklers from last season; however, the depth is good with seven starters and 22 lettermen back on campus. Defensive coordinator Rocky Long will make the most of the returning experience, which includes junior linebacker Miles Burris (58 tackles) and defensive end B.J. Williams (32 tackles, 2.5 sacks).

San Diego State's 2010 Schedule: Nicholls State, at New Mexico St., at Missouri, Utah State, at BYU, Air Force, at New Mexico, at Wyoming, Colorado St., at TCU, Utah, UNLV.

2010 College Football Predictions: 8-4 Overall, 5-3 Conference, Fourth Place Mountain West
