New Mexico Lobos 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011

New Mexico Lobos 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: Just two seasons ago New Mexico won nine games under then Head Coach Rocky Long. Last year, in Mike Locksley's first year on the sidelines, the team's record sank to an abysmal 1-11. The former Illinois offensive coordinator is hoping for a better result this season, despite just 11 starters returning to Albuquerque. 2010 College Football Predictions at Sportsbook.com have the Lobos listed at +10000 moneyline odds (Field – Any Other Team) to win the BCS National Championship.

Not much went right for the Lobos last season as the team averaged a miserable 16.3 points per game while watching New Mexico Lobos 2010 College Football Predictions - BCS Odds 2011opponents light up the scoreboard at a 35.9 point per contest clip. Locksley might be able to improve upon those numbers this season given that the team has worked in his system for over a year now, but he will have to do so with a new quarterback.

The offense loses signal caller Donovan Porterie, who threw for 2411 yards and 12 touchdowns, as well as three starters upfront, including first team all-conference performer Erik Cook (C). Replacing Porterie will be true freshman Tarean Austin or sophomore BR Holbrook (170 yards, one touchdowns, two picks in 2009).

Leading rushers Desmond Dennis (427 yards, three touchdowns as a true freshman) and James Wright both return, giving the backfield some stability and the receiving corps also welcomes back top receiver Ty Kirk (36 receptions, two touchdowns).

The Lobos defense loses four of its top five tacklers from last year's dismal unit; however, it does retain its two best players in linebacker Carmen Messina and defensive end Jonathan Rainey. Messina earned first team All Mountain West honors after leading the nation with 162 tackles while Rainey posted a team high 9.5 sacks. New Mexico also has two starters back in the secondary, which means the horrific 2009 passing totals (254 yards per game allowed) should drop.

New Mexico's 2010 Schedule: at Oregon, Texas Tech, Utah, at UNLV, UTEP, at New Mexico State, San Deigo State, at Colorado State, Wyoming, at Air Force, at BYU, TCU.

2010 College Football Predictions: 2-10 Overall, 1-7 Conference, Ninth Place Mountain West
