2009 College Football Odds: Georgia Tech had their second nine win season in the last two years in 2008 as Head Coach Paul Johnson led the Yellow Jackets to a 9-4 record in his first year with the program. The team should be excited about the possibilities this year as 18 starters return from last year's bowl squad. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2009 College Football Odds at SBGglobal.com have Georgia Tech listed at +225 on the moneyline to win the ACC's Coastal division. Paul Johnson took over for Chan Gailey last year and implemented the same ball control, smash mouth offense that he had at Navy and Georgia Southern. Two-hundred-seventy-three of the 372 yards per game that the Yellow Jackets averaged came via the run. This season will be much the same as an experienced offensive line returns to pave the way for 2008 ACC offensive Player of the Year, running back Jonathan Dwyer. Dwyer ran for 1395 yards and 12 touchdowns last year while averaging a ridiculous 7.0 yards per carry. In addition to Dwyer, the offense also returns starting quarterback Josh Nesbitt and leading receiver Demaryius Thomas. Nesbitt threw for 808 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore and he complimented Dwyer nicely by rushing for 693 yards and seven scores. The Yellow Jacket defense held teams to 20.3 points and 314 yards per game last year while also racking up 34 sacks. Eight starters are back for Johnson, but last season's coordinator, Jon Tenuta, left in the off-season to join the Notre Dame staff. Replacing Tenuta is Dave Wommack, a former linebackers coach at Southern Mississippi. Wommack has a great deal of talent with which to work as the top five tacklers from 2008 return. Tech has playmakers at every level of the defense in Morgan Burnett (SS), Kyle Jackson (LB), and Derrick Morgan (DE). Burnett led the team in tackles last year with a total of 93 and he also had seven interceptions. Morgan was second on the squad with seven sacks while recording 51 tackles. Georgia Tech opens the year with a cupcake non-conference game against Jacksonville State. They face ACC foe Clemson the following weekend to open their conference schedule.
