2009 College Football Odds: The Miami Hurricanes rebounded, to the slightest degree, last year from a 5-7 2007 season to go 7-6. Randy Shannon's squad went 4-4 in ACC play and qualified for the Emerald Bowl, which they lost 17-24 to California. Big improvements are expected out of this year's Hurricane team, but they will have to survive a brutal schedule in order to have anything to show for their advances. Miami Hurricanes 2009 College Football Odds at Bodog.com have the team's win total set at 8 and the under is presently a -200 favorite.Miami Hurricanes 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010

The Hurricane's offense improved dramatically last season, at least in terms of scoring, from their 2007 campaign as they averaged 6.5 more points per contest. That number should go up even further this year as eight starters return to Coral Gables.

The team will be under a new coordinator in Mark Whipple, but starting quarterback Jacory Harris, lead rusher Graig Cooper, and top receiver Aldarius Johnson all return to make for what should be a smooth transition. Harris threw for 1195 yards and 12 touchdowns last year while getting just two starts as a true freshman. Cooper, meanwhile, ran for 841 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry.

The offensive line should be improved as well with three full time starters from 2008 back. The team's rushing totals, which worked out to 129 yards per game and 3.9 yards per carry last year, ought to go up substantially with the returning experience.

Miami's defense will also be working with a new coordinator in 2009 as Bill Young left to join the staff at Oklahoma State. Replacing Young is John Lovett, who has been a defensive coordinator at four different schools.

Seven starters from a unit that held opponents to 24.2 points and 317 yards per game are back to work under Lovett. Two of the top three tacklers are gone, but there is an abundance of talent still on the roster, including linebackers Colin McCarthy and Sean Spence and defensive linemen Marcus Robinson and Allen Bailey. Spence had 82 tackles last year while Robinson and Bailey combined for 71 tackles and nine sacks.

The Hurricanes have an unbelievably difficult schedule as they face ACC foes Florida State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and North Carolina all on the road. They also have non-conference games with Oklahoma and South Florida. Shannon's troops open the season on September 7th against the Seminoles in Tallahassee.
