North Carolina State Wolfpack 2010 College Football Predictions – BCS Odds 2011: Last year the season started off with such promise for the North Carolina State Wolfpack, winning three of their first four games including an upset of the Pitt Panthers. Their only loss that Septmember came at the hands of SEC rival South Carolina who stole a 3-7 victory in Raleigh in the season opener. Then the dam broke, as the Wolfpack dropped four straight to Wake Forest, Duke, Boston College and Florida State. It was in those four games where State lost its bowl season. Overall, they played a cushy schedule and still found ways to lose.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook BetUS.com have NC State listed on their 2011 BCS Board at +20,000 (200/1) odds . Odds on the Wolfpack winning the Atlantic Division are +650 and the ACC outright at +2000 (20/1)
There is guarded optimism for the 2010 Wolfpack. Much of that based on the return of second team All-ACC quarterback Russell Wilson. Last year the junior signal caller led the league in touchdown passes with 31. Willson threw for 3027 yards on 224 completions of 378 attempts for a quarterback rating of 147.77. The Pack is also returning the bulk of its receiving corps back including Owen Spencer, who hauled in 30 passes for 765 yards and six touchdowns. The weakest areas offensively are with the offensive line and running game.
While the Wolfpack offense is capable of scoring plenty of points, their defense must be counted on to prevent the opposition from scoring points. There is not much promise there, with the team having to replace its entire defensive line. Coaches are putting lots of hope on the return of linebacker Nate Irving who is returning to the team after missing 2009 from a car wreck.
2010 Outlook: Wolfpack fans should circle these dates for this fall. Sept. 11 at UCF and Sept. 16 vs. Cincinnati at home, at East Carolina on Oct. 16. The Wolfpack must three of these four and win three conference games to get bowl eligible. The Pack did not get the luck of the draw in their conference game assignments having to play all the top powers, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Florida State, and North Carolina. The Pack will have to scratch and claw to eek out six wins but they should do it. We predict a 7-4 season for NC State and 6-6 worst case. If they win less than six Tom O'Brien will not survive as coach.
