2010 College Football Predictions: Odds to Win Pac 10

by Matt Foust on Friday, August 20th, 2010

2010 College Football Predictions Odds to Win Pac 10: The Pac 10 has belonged to USC for the better part of a decade, with the Trojans either winning the conference outright or owning a co-share of the league title in seven of the last eight years. However, USC, due to NCAA sanctions laid down this offseason, is not allowed to participate in the Pac 10 title race this season. Are the Ducks, last year's conference champion, ready to assume the role of lead dog with the Trojans sidelined? 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com would indicate they are as the team is presently listed at +150 moneyline odds to defend its championship.

Oregon Ducks (+150): Oregon fought its way to a 10-3 record and 8-1 conference tally in Chip Kelly's first season as head 2010 College Football Predictions: Odds to Win Pac 10coach. The Ducks won their first conference title since 2001 and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl as a result. Things look promising in Eugene once again with 17 starters and 46 lettermen from that squad returning to play for Kelly this season. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli (transferred to Mississippi) is gone after his involvement, guilty or not, in an offseason campus theft; however, star running back and reigning Pac 10 Player of the Year LaMichael James (1546 yards, 14 touchdowns, 6.7 ypc), who had some offseason legal woes as well, is back to drive the team.

The Ducks do have road games against USC, California, and Oregon State, but they appear to have a roster capable of dealing with tough road competition.

Oregon State Beavers (+350): The Beavers finished third in the Pac 10 last year after putting together a 6-3 league record. Given that Head Coach Mike Riley, who always seems to field a good team, has 15 starters and 58 lettermen back in Corvallis, there is no reason to believe Oregon State will not challenge for the title in 2010. Like Oregon, the Beavers have a dynamic playmaker in the backfield in Jacquizz Rodgers, who rushed for 1440 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. Rodgers is also a capable receiver as he and his brother James, who returns for his senior year, combined for 169 receptions, 1556 yards, and 10 scores to lead the passing attack.

Oregon State must find a way to beat its in-state rival if it wants to secure its first conference championship since 2000. The Ducks have won the past two meetings by a combined score of 102-71.
