Temple Owls 2010 College Football Predictions – MAC Odds 2010: Temple Head Coach Al Golden achieved the improbable last season, guiding the Owls, which had won three games in the three years before his arrival in 2006, to a 9-4 record and first bowl game since 1979. His team has a chance to be special again this season with 16 starters and 56 lettermen returning to compete for the school. 2010 College Football Predictions at BetUS.com have the Owls listed at +450 moneyline odds to win the MAC this season.
Temple had its most productive offensive season in decades last year after averaging 29.5 points per game. With nine
starters back, the Owls figure to improve even more, especially upon the pedestrain 333 yards per game it posted in 2009.
The offensive line returns four starters, including first team All-MAC performers Darius Morris (RT) and Colin Madison (RG). The boys upfront paved the way for 187 rush yards per contest last season, an impressive tally which could be exceeded in 2010 with sophomore running back Bernard Pierce back in the fold. Pierce earned first team all conference honors as a true freshman after rushing for 1361 yards and 16 touchdowns (5.8 ypc).
Last season's starting quarterback, Vaughn Charlton, who threw for 1390 yards and 10 touchdowns, has made the transition to tight end, leaving control of the offense in the hands of junior Chester Stewart. Stewart amassed 514 yards and three touchdowns (three interceptions) in limited action last season.
The Owls' defense yielded just 20.6 points per game in conference play a season ago, a number which ranked fourth in the MAC. While two of the top three tacklers from that stout unit are gone, Temple should be just as strong if not stronger in 2010. Seven starters are back, five of which earned all conference distinction, including MAC Defensive Player of the Year Adrian Robinson (DE). Robinson recorded 46 tackles and 13 sacks in an amazing 2009 sophomore campaign.
Temple's 2010 Schedule: Villanova, Central Michigan, Connecticut, at Penn State, at Army, at Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, at Buffalo, Akron, at Kent State, Ohio, at Miami, OH.
2010 College Football Predictions: 9-3 Overall, 7-1 Conference, First Place MAC East
