2009 College Football Odds: Last year Head Coach Mike Stoops guided the Wildcats to the first winning season of his tenure, going 8-5 and finishing fifth in the Pac-10 with a 5-4 conference record. Arizona concluded the season with a 31-21 win over BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl. The post-season appearance and subsequent victory were the first for the Wildcats since the 1998 Holiday Bowl. Arizona Wildcats 2009 College Football Odds - BCS Odds 2010 at Sportsbetting.com have Arizona listed at 30 to 1 to win the Pac-10 Championship. Arizona fielded by far its best offensive unit in the last seve Six starters are back from last season's stellar offense, but unfortunately for Wildcat fans, quarterback Willie Tuitama has moved on after throwing for 3088 yards and 23 touchdowns in his senior campaign. Replacing Tuitama is sophomore Matt Scott. Scott completed 7-of-11 passes last year for 84 yards and a touchdown. While the quarterback position loses a vast amount of experience, Scott will be aided by a solid ground attack and a capable receiving corps. Running back Nic Grisby ran for 1153 yards and 13 touchdowns (5.4 yards per carry) as a sophomore last year while tight end Rob Gronkowski and wideout Delashaun Dean combined for 100 catches, 1265 yards, and 14 touchdowns. Arizona's defense took a step back in 2007, despite returning nine starters from a unit that held team's to an average of 19.6 points per game. They did, however, improve in 2008 dropping their opposition's point per game average from 26.8 to 21.3. This year seven starters come back and things should improve once again. The defensive line returns all four starters, including a pair of book ends, Brooks Reed and Ricky Elmore, that combined for 62 tackles and 12 sacks a season ago. The linebacking corps does lose its top tackler in Ronnie Palmer (85) but will start three seniors this season. The Wildcats secondary also has good experience with two all Pac-10 candidates in cornerback Devin Ross and free safety Cam Nelson. Arizona opens the 2009 season with three straight non-conference games against Central Michigan, Northern Arizona, and Iowa. Their first conference game is scheduled for September 26th against Oregon State at Corvallis.
