2010 College Football Predictions: Odds to Win Big East

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

2010 College Football Predictions Odds to Win Big East: The Cincinnati Bearcats have won back-to-back Big East titles, but they will have to shoot for a third consecutive crown with a new coach as well as a new starting quarterback. The changes have many college football pundits looking elsewhere for a 2010 conference winner. 2010 College Football Predictions at online bookmaker SBGglobal.com have three teams separating from the pack as West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Connecticut are all listed at +220 moneyline odds to win the Big East Conference.

West Virginia Mountaineers (+220): The Mountaineers finished 9-4 last year after falling 21-33 to Florida State in the Gator 2010 College Football Predictions: Odds to Win Big EastBowl. West Virginia's 5-2 league record saw the team place third in the conference standings behind Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. Bill Stewart has much to feel good about as he heads into his third season as head coach with 16 starters returning to Morgantown, including Heisman contender Noel Devine. The Mountaineers also have a great deal of experience along the offensive and defensive lines, which means they will be solid in the trenches once again.

Pittsburgh Panthers (+220): Pittsburgh produced its best finish under Dave Wannstedt last season, finishing the year with a 10-3 overall mark and a 5-2 Big East tally. The Panthers also got a big postseason victory, taking out North Carolina 19-17 in the Car Care Bowl. Only 11 starters are back for Wannstedt; however, the team has plenty of experience with 49 lettermen returning. Pitt also has a conference player of the year contender on each side of the ball in running back Dion Lewis and defensive end Greg Romeus.

Connecticut Huskies (+220): The Huskies produced a lackluster 3-4 conference record last year, but they still won eight games after taking out South Carolina 20-7 in the PapaJohns.com Bowl. Head Coach Randy Edsall gets 16 starters back from that group, including the first string quarterback, leading rusher, and top three tacklers. With the returning talent, Connecticut figures to have an advantage over at least two Big East foes that it finished behind last season, especially considering the Huskies four 2009 conferences losses were by an average of 3.75 points per game.
