Martin, who handed A.J. Pratt the OC duties last season, will reassume his traditional role of head coach/offensive coordinator in 2010. With eight starters back and the coach calling the plays, the offense stands a good chance of returning to its 2008 production levels.
The unit has three starting offensive lineman back as well as the starting quarterback, leading rusher, and top two receivers. Sophomore field general Spencer Keith could be a special player for Martin this season after throwing for 2147 yards and 14 touchdowns in an injured shortened true freshman campaign.
The Golden Flashes defense played well last year, limiting its conference opposition to an average of 21.3 points per game. For the season, the group held teams to a 22.4 point per contest tally, the second best average of the Martin era. With seven starters back, including the top six tacklers and leading sacker, this year's defense has a chance to be Martin's best yet.
Kent State also a potential MAC defensive player of the year performer in senior linebacker Cobrani Mixon. Mixon earned first team all conference honors last season after recording 108 tackles, three sacks, and seven passes broken up.
