Florida State Seminoles - ACC Preview After their worst season since 1981 Florida State Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden realized change was needed. New offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will open up the playbook and try to create more big plays from what has been a stagnant offense. The QB position is still up in the air but the either Drew Weatherford, 6-3 220, or Xavier Lee, 6-4 235, will be the guy. Weatherford is terribly inaccurate and has been a major disappointment. Xavier Lee is a big, strong, mobile passer that has a rocket for an arm.

The tailback duties will be in the hands of 4.3 flyer Antone Smith, 5-9 190. Smith runs hard with a nice pad level and he should be FSU’s first 1,000 yard rusher this year since 1996. The Noles have a nice receiver combo with tall, sure handed Greg Carr and the physical De’Cody Fagg. The offensive line is a work in progress but should be moderately improved after last years weak performance.

FSU will remain a no frills 4-3 defense that hits with authority. The D-line looks vicious with a deep talented unit in place. The best is DT Andre Fluellen who is a force on the inside. Four Seminoles linebackers have been plucked by the NFL in the last two years but Florida State continues to reload. OLB Geno Hayes, 6-2 215, should be an all-american this year and will be playing on sundays next year.

The secondary is sound with all four starters returning. S Myron Rolle, 6-2 218, has star quality with his instincts and physicality. The corners Tony Carter, 5-9 160, and Jamie Robinson, 6-2 190, are good cover corners that can blanket wideouts. The kicking games is adequate and the return games should be above average.

The jury is still out on this team. With one of the toughest schedules in the nation it will be hard for the Florida State Seminoles to win more than 9 games.
