2009 College Football Odds: The Oregon Ducks went 10-3 in Mike Bellotti's last year on the sideline, finishing second in the Pac-10 standings and beating Oklahoma State 42-31 in the Holiday Bowl. Bellotti departs after 14 years having accumulated a 116-55 record and 12 bowl appearances. New Head Coach Chip Kelly, who has served as Bellotti's offensive coordinator since 2007, has some big shoes to fill in Eugene. The cupboard, however, is not bare as the Oregon Ducks 2009 College Football Odds at Sportsbook.com are favoring the over 7.5 wins at -135 on the moneyline. Chip Kelly takes over an Oregon program that is in great condition Just four starters return from last year's productive unit, but fortunately for Kelly among the returnees is quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Masoli served as the catalyst for both the passing and rushing attacks, throwing for 1744 yards and 13 touchdowns while racking up 718 yards and 10 touchdowns with his legs. In addition to Masoli, Kelly also inherits the second member of a lethal 2008 tailback combination in LaGarrette Blount. Blount ran for 1002 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior and averaged a staggering 7.3 yards per carry. The receiving corps and offensive line, however, figure to be down as a number of top contributors from both groups have moved on. Oregon's defense had difficulty matching the offense's prowess last season, giving up 28.2 points and 390 yards per game. Just five starters are back but there are 25 returning defensive lettermen; the level of play should not drop that much, if at all, as a result. Moreover, some of the top playmakers from 2008 are still in Eugene, including free safety T.J. Ward, linebacker Spencer Paysinger, and defensive end Will Tukuafu. Ward led the team in tackles last year with 101 while Paysinger ranked second with 95 takedowns. Tukuafu had 59 tackles and 7.5 sacks for defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti last year. The Ducks have a huge game right out of the chute this year, taking on Boise State in Idaho on September 3rd. Oregon's first conference tilt is scheduled for September 26th at Autzen Stadium against the California Golden Bears. after the 14 year reign of Bellotti. The team's offense was never more prolific than it was last season, posting averages of 41.9 points and 485 yards per game. Those numbers were the best of any Pac-10 squad in 2008. The Ducks also were the top scoring team in league play, sporting a 41.4 point per game average against conference rivals.
