2009 College Football Odds: Things did not go well for the Washington Huskies under Head Coach Tyrone Willingham and after an 0-12 season last year, the school elected to go in a different direction. Steve Sarkisian was hired to pick up the pieces and help restore the program to the national prominence that it once enjoyed. While nobody is predicted a Pac-10 Championship for the Huskies this season, expectations are that the team will at least notch a few marks in the win column. Washington Huskies 2009 College Football Odds at BetUS.com have the Huskies win total set at 3.5 with the over a 160 favorite. Washington fielded one of the worst offensive units in the country a Quarterback Jake Locker returns from leg and thumb injuries to run the same pro-style attack that Sarkisian helped oversee at USC. Locker played in just four games last year, throwing for 1339 yards, four touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. However, in 12 starts as a red shirt freshman, Locker passed for 2062 yards and ran for 986. How the signal caller adapts to a new system will be key to the offense's improvement. Seven other starters from last season's offense will join Locker in 2009, including top receivers D'Andre Goodwin and Jermaine Kearse. The offensive line loses two starters but should improve on last year's miserable numbers. The boys upfront gave up 31 sacks and paved the way for a paltry 2.8 yards per carry in 2008's 0-12 campaign. The Huskies defense did not fare much better than the offense last season, allowing 38.6 points and 452 yards per game. They were especially awful against the run, giving up 241 yards per outing to opposing ground games. New defensive coordinator Nick Holt, who came over with Sarkisian from USC, has his work cut out for him, but 10 starters are back to assist his efforts. The front seven should be much improved with all seven first teamers back, including top tackler linebacker Mason Foster (105) and leading sacker defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (8). Unless injuries decimate the unit, there is no way that the team's numbers against the run to not drop dramatically. Washington opens the year on September 5th with a home game against LSU. The Huskies first conference game comes on September 19th against USC. season ago as the Huskies averaged just 13.3 points per game. The team, amazingly, was even more futile in conference action, producing 8.6 points per contest. Injuries and inexperience plagued the group all year long and helped bury them at the bottom of the Pac-10 standings.
