Louisiana Tech fans have been anticipating Saturday's season opener against Mississippi State since the game was announced more than a year ago.
When the two teams kick off at 6:45 p.m. from Joe Aillet Stadium, those same fans will experience a game-day atmosphere like they've never seen before in Ruston.
"There is a lot of excitement in Ruston," said Tech head coach Derek Dooley. "The excitement is because we have a quality opponent in Mississippi State, it's on national television and it's the season opener. These are the types of games we want to be in as a program. How we will fair, we will find out."
Mississippi State returns 15 starters from last year's team that won the Liberty Bowl and posted an 8-5 mark overall. Offensively, MSU returns six starters, including all-SEC running back Anthony Dixon who rushed for more than 1,000 yards and sophomore quarterback Wes Carroll.
Tech returns 14 starters from last year, including the majority of its skill position players on the offensive side of the football. The Bulldogs from Ruston will rely heavily upon a running game led by senior Patrick Jackson, who rushed for over 900 yards last year despite injury.
