Syracuse isn’t what it was a few years ago but visiting the Carrier Dome is always an intimidating venue for a young football team looking to start the season on the right track. To say Syracuse is a must win for the young Huskies is not a sensational statement. In September alone, the Huskies host a dangerous Boise State team followed by Ohio State, a trip to UCLA and a meeting with No. 1 USC. The odds of Washington entering the month of October with an 0-5 record are daunting; especially if the Huskies limp out of Syracuse with a loss. Both Syracuse and Washington are coming off losing seasons and look to tonight’s game as a springboard into a successful 2007 campaign. The game kicks off at 8 pm ET and can be seen on ESPNHD.

Syracuse coach Greg Robinson still sees his team in the construction phase but is starting to see improvements. However, the fruits of two years of labor will be hard to see until the Orange show it on the field. The Huskies finished off 2006 on a positive note winning four of their last five football games and would like to continue that trend into the 2007 campaign.
There are startling similarities between the once proud programs of Washington and Syracuse. Both schools are debuting first time starters at quarterback, Andrew Robinson for Syracuse and Jake Locker for Washington. Syracuse coach Robinson and Washington coach Ty Winningham are beginning their third year after inheriting programs low on talent resulting in 12 wins between both since taking over their respective programs.
