College Football Picks: Colorado Buffaloes vs Colorado State RamsColorado Buffaloes vs. Colorado State Rams; Betting Line-Colorado by -11 ½ (total 56 ½); Television FSN; Kickoff 7:30 PM ET; Mile-High @Invesco Field, Denver, Colo.

The Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams will kick off their college football seasons Sunday night in the annual ‘Qwest Rocky Mountain Showdown’ at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver. Kickoff is set for 7:40 p.m. ET, with Fox Sports Net to televise the game nationally.

The Buffaloes and Rams renew one of the nation's most closely contested rivalries of late. The Buffaloes have won four of the last six years, but all six of those games have been decided by seven points or less, and by a combined 25 points, including Colorado’s 31-28 overtime win at Invesco last September. Five points or less has been the difference in five of those battles.

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook SBGglobal.com have installed Colorado as an -11 1/2 chalk favorite with a 56 total.

The Rams will have a new quarterback in Billy Farris . While Farris has played in just nine games and thrown only 39 passes, the Rams will surrounded him with one of the deepest backfields in the nation, led by seniors  Gartrell Johnson and Kyle Bell, and one of the conference's most experienced lines. Farris also has a dangerous target in tight end Kory Sperry, who recently joined the John Mackey Award watch list. Sperry caught three touchdowns against Colorado last year.

Sophomore Cody Hawkins, son of Buffaloes coach Dan Hawkins, will lead the Colorado offense with a year’s experience under his belt. Hawkins set freshman school records in passing yards (2,693), completions (239), attempts (424) and touchdown passes (19) in 2007. He had nine 200-yard passing games, tying the school record with six in a row at one point. The Buffaloes return 14 starters in 2008, six on offense and eight on defense. Seven of the top eight tacklers return to CU this year, led by Brad Jones with 81.

The Pick: Look for offense to dominate Sunday. OVER 56 ½.
