Football Handicapping Seminar Kicks Off 2011 Betting Season

To NFL and College Football betting enthusiasts, there wasn't a better place in the world to be last weekend (Aug. 27-28) than at opulent Red Rock Resort-Casino-and-Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada where and Peter Gold, its brilliant Vice President and General Manager, pulled off a spectacular two day NFL and NCAA football handicapping seminar. This two day event was open to the general public interested in increasing their football handicapping skills and getting wagering tips from top professional sports betting professionals from across the country.

Vegas Insider Handicapping SeminarThe event opened Saturday morning with a warm greeting from Gold who followed by introducing an impressive lineup of participating speakers and panelists. The list, a virtual who's-who of handicappers and media personalities included ESPN920-Las Vegas Radio personality and renowned handicapper Dave “Cat in the Hat” Cokin; Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter and columnist Matt Youmans; Scott Pritchard of Pritchard Picks; and top stats guys like Andy Iskoe and Ted Sevransky. Also participating in the Football Handicapping Seminar was SEC expert Brian Edwards; and well known capping analysts Micah Roberts, James Manos, Chip Chirimbes, Dave Tuley, Bruce Marshall and Paul Bovi.

There were a couple of famous faces among the crowd too. Paramount Sports own Lee Sterling was attending as was New York City’s most famous Bookie, Douglas “Dink” Heimowitz. Dink is soon to be portrayed by actor Bruce Willis in the upcoming movie “Lay the Odds” scheduled for release some time in 2012.

Saturday’s agenda included topical panel discussions on – Power of Twitter and Facebook; Exotic Wagering; and College Football Forecast.  Sunday was taken up with a complete NFL breakdown covering – Affect of the Lockout; Division Analysis; Surprise Teams; Overrated vs. Underrated; New Coaches, Pickups; and Super Bowl Winners. The seminar concluded with a question and answer session and a “meet and greet.”

On a personal note, I was fortunate to be an invited guest as part of the and team of writers to attend a special Friday night cocktail reception where I could mix and compare notes and ideas on my specialty – NCAA Football, while our NFL expert handicappers Jonathan “Parlay King” Pou and “the Kansas City Sharp” Matt Foust. It was virtual handicappers – think-tank with an open bar.
