Wake Forest and Boston College meet for the 15th time when they kick off this ACC Atlantic Division clash Saturday at Alumni Stadium, in Chestnut Hill, Mass., starting at 3:30 pm ET. The game will be televised regionally in the East by ABC.
This season-opening matchup between Wake Forest and Boston College will feature the teams with the top two overall win totals in the ACC in 2006. The Deacons won the ACC Atlantic Division and the ACC Championship game to go 11-3 in. Boston College was second in the Atlantic and 5-3 overall and posted a 10-3 overall record. Virginia Tech of the Coastal Division also went 10-3 overall. The Eagles advanced to the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte where they defeated Navy 25-24 as PK Steve Aponavicius booted a game-winning 37-yard field goal as time expired.
Wake Forest is returning eight starters on offense, including the ACC Rookie of the Year at quarterback, Riley Skinner. They are returning five defensive starters and have enough talent to make things uncomfortable for any opposing defense.
All Skinner did was rack up 2,053 passing yards as he guided the Deacons through the regular season, past Georgia Tech in the ACC title game, and into the Orange Bowl, where the dream finally ended with a 24-13 loss to Louisville.
The Eagles return All-ACC quarterback Matt Ryan , their two leading rushers L.V. Whitworth and Andre Callender and their leading receiver Kevin Challenger. They will be playing their first game with Jeff Jagodzinski as coach. Jagodzinski, the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers last season, replaced Tom O’Brien, who left BC after 10 seasons to become the coach at N.C. State.
