Florida Atlantic vs Alabama-Birmingham 2010 College Football Predictions: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers (C-USA) will open their 2010 college football campaign in a Thursday night game (8 pm Eastern) at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., versus the Owls of Florida Atlantic University (Sun Belt).
UAB handled the Owls easily in their 2009 matchup, also in Birmingham, when they won 56-29. Both schools finished the year with equal 5-7 records. FAU seemed to catch some momentum in conference play as they compiled a 5-3 record while UAB finished its C-USA season at 4-4. By seasons end it seemed the Owls had come together as a team winning three of their final four games resulting in a third place Sun Belt finish.
FAU runs a balanced air-ground attack. Last year the Owls rushed for over 1,800 yards for 17 touchdowns. Their ground attack was led by Alfred Morris who carried for 1,392 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Jeff Van Camp split starting time in 2009 with Rusty Smith but will handle all the duties behind center now that Smith has graduated. Van Camp, who made his collegiate debut versus the Blazers last year.
The Blazers like to rush the ball as evidenced in 2009 when their offense ranked seventh nationally in that category. David Isabelle will move into the starting RB position since last years leading rusher Joe Webb has graduated. Isabelle carried for 290 yards on 32 attempts last year.
The weakness for both teams were their defenses so if they want to join their conference's elite, they need to lean how to stop people.
UAB is over lined for this game in giving -14 to the Owls. Actually, the way FAU was playing at the end of last season, they were probably the better team. Regardless, If gamblers waffle on betting the side, the 50 point total is sure go go down by the third quarter.
